We caught up with jimmy dale richardson to talk custom telecasters and chat about his new single on Fun Guy Records backed by The Reverend Horton Heat and co.

What first drew you to the music business?

Listening to music with my Dad who traveled to antique shows and helping him set up to deal in obscure records. He also played guitar back then and taught me to play.

How did it feel to win the 2019 Ameripolitan Rockabilly award?

It was a shocking and humbling experience.

From what or whom do you draw the most inspiration?

God, my wife, my parents, my kids. I listen to different music all the time and that gives me inspiration.

What is your most memorable gig?

The anticipation of meeting James Intveld for the first time and opening for him. Now, we've been friends

for several years. James and Big Sandy were some of my favorite artists, so meeting them was a big deal.

How did you get hooked up with The Rev and Fun Guy Records?

Jim introduced himself after the Ameripolitan Showcase and then said "Wow, Where have you been?"

From there, he invited me up to play a song I wrote called "She's Wild" at his show in my hometown OKC and while we were visiting after the show, I played some home-recorded music that I had held on to from 1998 of Nick Curran, Smiley Jake Erwin, and me singing. Jim Heath and his wife Andrea have really helped push me to get my music out there with Fun Guy Records. For the last two years, we've been working together on music.

If you could tour with any artist past or present who would it be?

There are too many greats to list. Presently, I would love to tour with Reverend Horton Heat as well as Big Sandy. For the past, Eddie Cochran, Waylon, Buddy Holly, Johnny Cash, Faron Young, Marty Robbins... and I could go on all night.

Any new music or releases in the pipeline?

June 26th, we have a 45 release of two original songs. "58 Buick" and "She's Wild" will be on Fun Guy Records. There is a big show at Trees in Deep Ellum, TX with a great lineup of talent including Jim Heath and Slim Jim Phantom.

How did you stay busy this past year?

We were grateful to be booked for several car shows - SYMCO in Wisconsin, Vintage Torque, and twice for Iron Invasion in Iowa. We did work with Rev on The Jimbo's Show and my wife's dance studio stayed open so we kept things rolling.

Are you planning on any upcoming tours?

That is definitely a big goal of ours! For now, we're booked for Viva Las Vegas and then heading to Cali for Hillbilly Jazz with Stellar Shows & Concerts

in September.

What was it like growing up in a family with such a rich musical history?

My parents were always encouraging and excited. Their belief coupled with a passion for this music helped me a long way.

What is your favorite guitar?

I love a number of guitars because they each create a different sound for different flavors of music. I most often play a custom bright seafoam see-through nitro Tele with a cowhide pickguard. I do leatherwork and built the pickguard and have been playing that guitar for about ten years.
